Richard John Doe was born on 1919 (Newmarket Q2-1919 3B:617) the son of Arthur and Elizabeth May DOE (née VAISSIERE), of Burwell His father "Mate" was a well known local character. Richard attended the County School in Cambridge and was a keen tennis player. They lived on Ness Road, opposite to the King William IV pub (corner of Ness Road and The Causeway). The 1939 register has his father [6-1-1874] a newsagent; his mother [15-5-1884] and grandmother Eliza DOE 21-6-1845] a widowed pensioner, living at Crown Cottage, Burwell. |

As yet, that is all I have found out. Although no reference has been found regarding service in the Artillery, that collar badge
does appear to be Royal Artillery. The location of his original burial is not public knowledge but he was re-interred in Arezzo on 5th June 1945. Many concentrations of burials for WW2 were recorded only on Grave Registration Unit records, many of which are considered too harrowing to be made public.
